About the Artist

My name is Rachel Leavitt and I am a self-taught portrait artist.  I have been selling my artwork for over a decade and I am now "working" full-time creating custom charcoal portraits based off of a photograph.  People often ask me how I learned to draw or if I went to school for it. I surprise them every time when I say that I learned in a 7th grade art class! 

I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree from Cal. State Long Beach in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology. I have always had a passion for health and fitness. However, in January 2021 I realized it was time to be my own boss and pursue my art full-time! It was the best decision that I have ever made.

I love charcoal because it is simple, bold and allows the subject to truly shine. In other words, there is no color or texture to distract from the subjects raw and real emotions. Art is all about being honest with our feelings and emotions. I endeavor to bring out the depth and truth within each individual which is extremely important as a professional artist. 

My mission is to honor our loved ones and American heroes through art. Creating portraits of our most cherished memories.
