There was a time when I forgot who I was. I let the pressures and responsibilities of life consume me. Everything I loved doing took a back seat, my art being one of them. I tried fitting in environments that weren’t meant for me. Then one day, a miracle happened. A profound pull led me back to my art table, and it was then when I remembered. I remembered that I had this gift that allowed me to reveal the most beautiful parts of myself. My art became the catalyst for connection. That is the real artistry of what I do, connecting people back to the deepest parts of themselves.
I went from earning my Bachelors degree In Kinesiology from CSULB, to a receptionist in medical offices, to becoming a full-time portrait artist in 2021. People often ask me how I learned to draw or if I went to school for it. I surprise them every time when I say that I learned in a 7th grade art class and I have been self-taught ever since!
I love charcoal because it is simple, bold and allows the subject to truly shine. There is no color or texture to distract from the subjects raw and real emotions. Black and white directs our focus right to their soul, which is exactly what I want. In order for me to create a realistic portrait, I also have to be realistic myself. In other words, I have to be able to notice what is “really” going on. Reading between the lines and removing the layers beneath the layers. Art is less about technique and much more about wisdom. I believe everything we do is all interconnected. Which is why I focus so heavily on bettering myself as a woman. It is only then, my art will flourish and actually mean something.
A custom charcoal portrait through my eyes. A bold strawberry blonde flowing through the golden road of intention and integrity. A Real Kind Love.
